John Wilson is recently retired Police Officer having served 20 years with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police primarily in Surrey, BC. More importantly, John is a father of seven – 3 birth children and 4 foster children – and is married to his high school sweetheart Krista.
John has dedicated much of his life to helping and inspiring others whether it be through work, family, mentoring or during his tireless hours spent coaching youth in the community and at the high school level.
During his time with the RCMP, John worked the typical gamut including General Duty and Investigative work; notably however, John worked extensively with high-risk youth in the gang environment where he honed his skills in non-enforcement policing and conflict management.
John was a founding and long-term member of the multi-award winning Surrey WRAP Program – a community-focused, police and school partnership which attempted to identify the most high-risk youth in the community and reroute their trajectory away from gangsterism. John spent his final 5 years with the RCMP working within National Security and Community Outreach.
Prior to joining the RCMP in 2004, John had a 14-year career working with youth and families in a multitude of settings and outreach capacities. Again, much of his work centered around conflict management and navigating family dynamics.
Regardless of which career, John’s life has been dedicated to fostering safer communities by addressing challenging situations with empathy and expertise.
Throughout his career, John always displayed excellent communication skills and was often lauded for his ability to engage all people regardless of situation or circumstance. As a dynamic and effective public speaker, John excels at engaging audiences with his deep knowledge and real-world insights, inspiring positive change in individuals and communities alike.
In recognition of his dedication to community and country, John is the recipient of both the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medal and the King Charles III Coronation medal.
